The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Women’s Basketball Team had a brief stumble at the very beginning of the season when they got pretty well overmatched against South Carolina in a game played in Paris. Now, stateside, the team has been on a pretty decent roll. They are looking to add to their roll and produce a pretty signature win in their game on Wednesday evening.

The Irish will travel to Knoxville to take on Tennessee. The Volunteers are ranked 20th while the Irish are ranked 18th.

Wednesday’s contest will be official game for the Irish as a part of the ACC/SEC Challenge. This is another matchup the Irish are a part of against another true Women’s College Basketball Blue Blood. This installment should be a great game as well. Both teams are looking for a true statement win in the early season - the Volunteers just played back-to-back ranked opponents in Indiana and Oklahoma, beating the Sooners and losing to the Hoosiers. The Lady Vols also have a familiar opponent for the Irish in Jewel Spear, who transferred from fellow ACC school Wake Forest after three years with the Demon Deacons.

Since dropping the first game to South Carolina, the Irish rattled off 5 straight wins. The couple of notable games were the wins over Northwestern in Purcell Pavilion and Illinois in the Citi Shamrock Classic in Washington, D.C. That game was the broadcast immediately preceding the ND Football Team’s final home game of the season against Wake Forest on NBC.

Olivia Miles is still recovering from her injury that has taken her out since the end of last year’s regular season. Sonia Citron also has a knee injury that has been sidelining her since she sustained that injury in the Northwestern game. Fortunately, she will only be out for a few weeks as opposed to the rest of the season as many initially feared. The shining star, though, has been Hannah Hidalgo, who has been LIGHTS OUT. She was just named ACC Rookie of the Week for the unprecedented third week in a row. She is a true phenom as a freshman that is tearing it up after 6 games.
