Notre Dame Football: Defensive back Antonio Carter enters the transfer portal

We hardly knew thee

It’s transfer portal season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the rest of college football. There will be many, many names that enter the portal, and the Irish won’t be immune to a large handful of players seeking a chance to play elsewhere. On Monday, Notre Dame defensive back Antonio Carter announced his decision to enter the transfer portal.

Carter came to Notre Dame via the transfer portal last spring from the Rhode Island Rams (an FCS program). Carter was viewed as raw — but very talented, and the Irish outrecruited a large handful of Power Five football programs to gain his commitment.

Carter’s role this past season was mostly as a backup and a minor part of the rotation in the Notre Dame defensive backfield. The Irish were already known to be in the hunt for defensive backs in the portal for 2024, and it would be a big win for the Irish if Xavier Watts returns next year.

Good luck to Antonio wherever he may land.
