Notre Dame Football: Hot and Cold Takes VS Oregon State: Sun Bowl Edition

LAST CALL FOR SPICY TAKES IN 2023

KICK IT OFF

What a great year of takes. I appreciate everyone for their creativity, optimism, pessimism, and overall input. This would not be possible without your input. Now that I got that out of the way, we are in the final week of Notre Dame football for a long time....which is sad. However, I think this is an opportunity to get a TON of takes in that are all over the place. This game does not feel like it is coming with a lot of pressure on either side, and should be an opportunity for players to play loose. Let’s get creative, let’s get wild, and let’s get onto our takes for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Oregon State Beavers.

Cold Take

NDs defense records 3 takeaways

This take could have been very different just a couple of weeks ago, but there have been a few huge developments that make this defense (still) very very good.

  1. Oregon State has many offensive opt outs including 2 QBs, RB, TE.....and more.
  2. ND opt ins: JJB, JD Bertrand, Jack Kiser, Xavier Watts, Rylie Mills, Howard Cross. That’s a lot of talent playing in this game for guys who had a decision to make.
  3. Al Golden is still around....There were rumors of other suitors, but they’ve yet to lure him away.

All of these things point to a disruptive pass rush, stout linebacker play.....and there’s still Benjamin Morrison and Christian Gray on the outside. This is a recipe for turnovers.

Hot Take

This duo has a chance to be VERY special next year. They both have home run speed, but are very complimentary backs. They both sat in the shadow of an All-American in Audric Estime and now is their time to shine. The offensive scheme will be run heavy, while also relying on screen games as this will be the first start for Steve Angeli. Angeli seems to thrive in the short/medium game and the coaches will look for this to be a HEAVY running back game. Both of these guys will get their chance to step up and paint a picture for what 2024 will look like.

Your Takes: Please leave your takes below (hot, cold medium-any temp). I will feature the Top Takes next week. GO IRISH!
