SB Nation Reacts: Most Notre Dame fans believe the transfer portal will become more important than recruiting

Let’s eat a burrito and talk about it

We asked, and you answered the call. For the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the rest of the college football world — it’s an incredibly busy time of year. National Signing Day is just a few days away, the transfer portal has been in hyperdrive over the past few weeks, bowl games have begun, and it’s Christmas Day in one week.

It’s not just busy — it’s wild.

From my vantage point, the ins and outs of the transfer portal have been far louder and more interesting than what’s happening with recruiting. That doesn’t necessarily mean the portal is more important than recruiting, BUT given the nature of it all... you do have to wonder if that will definitely be the case in a few years. 54% of Irish fans polled believe that to be true.

There was quite a bit of debate between Irish fans about if the Irish should take a quarterback from the portal this cycle. The lukewarm results of the 2021 and 2023 seasons (Jack Coan and Sam Hartman) probably helped trigger the debate, but 80% of you thought the Irish SHOULD be in the portal for a quarterback — which they did, and landed Leonard Riley from the Duke Blue Devils.

Notre Dame is just a week and a half away from taking on the Oregon State Beavers in the Sun Bowl. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Notre Dame is a 6.5 point favorite over the Beavers. While this isn’t the bowl game that Notre Dame fans dreamed of, they still have a chance to win 10 games on the year. 68% of you think winning ten games is pretty important.

In fact... a very large part of you view the possibility of a 10th win as what you’re looking forward to the most in the Sun Bowl.

Notre Dame’s bowl game proximity to Mexico has me asking (yet again) my favorite question in the world... Taco or Burrito? Once again, BURRITO wins the day. TEAM BURRITO FOREVER!
