The inevitable happened on Wednesday. Riley Leonard, the talented quarterback for the Duke Blue Devils, officially announced that he will be entering the transfer portal.

For a few months now, there has been a lot of speculation about Riley Leonard and the transfer portal — but mostly it was about when he would decide to jump in and not if he would. For most of that time, Notre Dame was a school that was brought up the most as a potential landing spot for Riley. With this announcement, things are only getting clearer, and 247’s Tom Loy threw in a prediction for the Irish to land Leonard for 2024.

There are two other possibilities that keep getting brought up about Leonard, and those are the Washington Huskies and the Oregon Ducks. He has a “DO NOT CONTACT” tag in the portal, so it seems as though he already has his list narrowed down and is not looking to be recruited by the country.

That list may already be just the Irish as shortly after his announcement, just about anyone that matters in this arena has predicted Leonard to land in South Bend.

Leonard would join a current quarterback room that includes Sophomore Steve Angeli, Freshman Kenny Minchey, and incoming Freshman C.J. Carr.

While this isn’t officially a done deal, I think it’s safe to say that we can really start talking about the 024 season with Leonard under center.
