It’s transfer portal season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the rest of college football. There will be many, many names that enter the portal, and the Irish won’t be immune to a large handful of players seeking a chance to play elsewhere. On Wednesday, Notre Dame wide receiver Tobias Merriweather announced that he is entering the transfer portal.

Tobias’s statement:

“I want to thank Coach Freeman and his staff for giving me a chance to fulfill my dreams of playing college football. I am grateful for my time at the University of Notre Dame and all it has offered me. I feel blessed to have formed friendships that will last a lifetime.”

“After careful consideration, consultation with my family and prayer, I have decided to seek an opportunity that best fits me and I will be entering the transfer portal.”

“Love Thee”

Merriweather enrolled at Notre Dame in 2022 after an eventful recruitment that saw his home as a key part of the Brian Kelly to LSU story. There was quite a bit of hope for what Tobias could bring to the field for the Irish, and there were glimpses of it his freshman season.

Some believed 2023 would be a breakout year for Merriweather, but there was never any kind of consistency. He began the year as a starter, but about halfway through the season he was moved down the depth chart.

Good luck to Tobias wherever he may go.
