The Notre Dame Fighting Irish still have to play a bowl game before we can officially say that the season is over, but with the transfer portal opening up very soon, we can already start to discuss what Marcus Freeman might be interested in this time around.
Notre Dame has fielded a transfer quarterback in two of the last three seasons, and we’re pretty sure they will be sniffing around the portal again for the 2024 season. No doubt that any move to the portal will disappoint a large contingent of Irish fans as Steve Angeli and Kenny Minchey are slated to return to South Bend in 2024 — and of course — the arrival of C.J. Carr next month.
While there’s a lot of excitement to see the Irish field a quarterback that they have recruited and developed — the real-world stakes involved will likely force Notre Dame’s hand to field the best possible quarterback that they can get. It seems simple enough, but people will definitely debate it — especially after mixed results this season.
Until players actually enter the transfer portal, it’s kind of a fool’s errand to start listing possible names... so I guess it’s a good thing that I’m a fool (at least that’s what the internet calls me).
So here are some “possible” names that may (or may not) appear:
- Michael Pratt — Tulane Green Wave
- Will Howard — Kansas State Wildcats
- Riley Leonard — Duke Blue Devils
- Will Rogers — Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Cam Ward — Washington State Cougars
Of the five listed, Will Howard seems to be the name that’s brought up the most as someone who could end up in South Bend. There aren’t any wildfires burning in the United States right now, but I’m still seeing a fair amount of smoke out there about Howard.
I guess we will find out soon enough.
Will Notre Dame get another QB out of the portal for 2024 season?
