On Wednesday 3-Star defensive end Armel Mukam simultaneously announced that he was decommitting from the Stanford Cardinal and committing to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It’s called a FLIP and these things happen.

The Woodbury Forest native (home of C.J. Prosise and Greer Martini) also held offers from the Virginia Cavaliers, California Golden Bears, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and others.

I can’t honestly sit here and give you a whole lot of information about Mukam as he just came across my radar screen last night. I realize people will automatically make the comparison to Keon Keeley — and do a quick math lecture about 5-Stars being better than 3-Stars. That’s just awesome insight y’all... but maybe don’t be so obvious.

Notre Dame has done quite well over the years with lower ranked 3-star players, and developing them over time in the program. There’s nothing wrong with that, and in fact, that’s how a lot of programs that don’t go the JUCO route are able to get old and stay old. I don’t have any problem with this type of recruiting, and I’m glad the Irish are aggressive in filling out the roster.

Mukam’s commitment keeps the Irish at 23 class at 23 committed players at the moment. It’s a class that is currently ranked #3 according to the 247 Team Composite Rankings — and you should be pretty excited about that too.
