Biggest two days in Notre Dame basketball in recent memory

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Our men are on a roll, winning 10 of 11 and looking to position themselves in a run to the NCAA's. Our women look like they are reverting to Muffet-Era form as they continue to look impressive and move up the rankings. This is something hugely encouraging as the last couple of years have been no fun for Notre Dame basketball fans.

But now we have two huge games for the men and women today and tomorrow. The men play #9 Duke at home tonight and the winner of that game has a very good chance of taking the top spot in the ACC, if only temporarily. I never thought we'd see the men in this position after the semi-disastrous start to the season. The women play #3 NC State at home tomorrow night, in a game that had been postponed in early January. Suddenly, with both teams playing very well, this has become a major matchup in the women's game.

It might be dead winter in South Bend, but I imagine (or at least I hope) that Purcell will be rocking on both nights. These next two days will give us a very strong indication of where the program is headed after two disappointing seasons for Irish basketball. I'll be watching.
