Notre Dame Football Recruiting: 4-Star Tight End Cooper Flanagan commits to the Irish

TEU continues to roll

On Thursday, 4-Star tight end Cooper Flanagan gave his commitment to play football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The 6’5” 228 pounder from De Le Salle High School in California chose Notre Dame over a nice handful of schools that include the Michigan Wolverines, Washington Huskies, Michigan State Spartans, Florida State Seminoles and more.

Flanagan is one of the top tight ends in the country as a junior. He looks agile enough with his tall frame, and should grow into body more with time and training. He reminds me of current 2022 commit, TE Eli Raridon but is bigger at this point in his career.

This is the 4th commitment of the 2023 class — a class that really could be a game changer for the Irish in terms of top talent signed come February 2023. It seems quite fitting that the first offensive commitment of the class is a tight end. At present, Notre Dame has the #3 ranked class in the country according to the 247 Composite Team Rankings.

Flanagan’s commitment puts 7 tight ends on the roster for 2023, but I’m 99% positive that Michael Mayer won’t be on that scholarship chart come fall of 2023.
