At the end of a perfect summer day in South Bend, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 3-0 after taking out the unbeaten Purdue Boilermakers, 27-13. No one who watched the game will say that there was an offensive explosion or a defensive shutdown — but both units played better than they had showed in the previous two games.
Offensively, we saw the line do a better job of protection, and the scheme helped keep George Karlaftis in check. Defensively, Notre Dame only allowed two big plays — and those were 31 and 32 yards in length.
The Irish doubled the spread, and even though it’s “just Purdue,” it should give a bit more confidence to this team as it prepares for the Wisconsin Badgers next week in Chicago.
