On Sunday, 4-Star safety Adon Shuler from Irvington, New Jersey, announced his commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on CBS Sports HQ. The 6’0 190 pound prospect is a top 200 player in the 2023 recruiting class according to 247 Sports, and chose the Irish over a healthy offer list that included; the Penn State Nittany Lions, Maryland Terrapins, Florida Gators, Boston College Eagles, and more.
Loved by a few hated by many respected by all… #goirish☘ #THINKBIG #IRISHRISING23 #Irvingtontuff

Shuler is a smooth athlete out on the football field, but also shows his good speed and athleticism on the track with a 11.89 100 yard dash time as a sophomore while also competing in the long jump and triple jump. He’s a physical player that is aggressive in his defense against the run. While I’m still a little uncertain about his coverage skills as a whole, he has great ball skills, and can be a playmaker in the secondary.
Shuler is the third commitment of the 2023 Notre Dame recruiting class — a class that is now ranked 3rd in the 247 Composite Team Rankings. It’s clear that Marcus Freeman and his defensive staff in South Bend are on a roll, and part of the proof is the high quality of this 3 man class which is all defense at the moment.

The Irish are setting themselves up for a very deep secondary in the future if everyone stays put in South Bend. Even if there is the normal amount of attrition, Notre Dame continues to stack the talent on the back end after years of struggle to have the right amount of numbers.

This 2023 class is very, very early — but it has the potential to develop into a true top 5 class. The Irish are hot on the trail, and another quality season in 2021 and 2022 to match what they have done since 2017 all but wipes the memory of “struggles” for these very young recruits.
