Wide Receiver, Avery Davis
Safety, Kyle Hamilton
Defensive End, Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa
Running Back, Kyren Williams
Linebacker, Drew White
From Notre Dame’s announcement:
Dick Corbett Head Football Coach Brian Kelly has named seven captains for his program in 2021. Avery Davis, Kyle Hamilton, Kurt Hinish, Jarrett Patterson, Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, Drew White and Kyren Williams will serve in the role this fall for the Fighting Irish. All seven players were SWAT captains during the summer workouts.
The group matches the all-time high for captains in a single season, with the Irish naming seven captains for the 2017 and 2019 seasons. DeShone Kizer, Greer Martini, Mike McGlinchey, Nyles Morgan, Quenton Nelson, Drue Tranquill and Austin Webster were selected for the post that season (Kizer went on to declare for the NFL Draft that season and then Josh Adams was elevated to captain). In 2019, Ian Book, Jalen Elliott, Chris Finke, Alohi Gilman, Robert Hainsey, Khalid Kareem and Julian Okwara led the Irish during the season.
According to how the SWAT leadership teams work, there were probably five other candidates involved here. With seven being a pretty high number, you can neither say those not selected were more worthy for the position. There are 4 defensive players and 2 offensive players —
AND I’D FOLLOW THEM ALL THROUGH A BRICK WALL.
