Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Florida safety Devin Moore commits to the Irish

The Irish go into the sunshine state for their 18th commitment of the 2022 class

On the Fourth of July, 3-Star safety Devin Moore gave his commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The 6’3” 190 pound safety from Naples, Florida, chose the Irish over a very nice offer list that included the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles, and more.

Rivals has Moore listed as a 4-Star cornerback which only makes the versatility of Moore that much clearer. I believe Notre Dame likes him best at safety (and I believe he will eventually get a nice rating bump on 247) but the fact of the matter is that he could play any number of positions — including the very important nickel position.

Moore has really nice hip movement, and for as tall as he is, he plays even longer and has excellent speed. So, whether he plays as a boundary cornerback, nickel, or at safety — he will add extremely good coverage skills in the Irish secondary.

The Irish coaching staff absolutely loves him, and with his offer list, they have a lot of backup in that regard.

This is the 18th commitment for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the 2nd in the last few days in the defensive backfield. The Irish are still firmly sitting at #2 in the 247 Composite Team Rankings for its 2022 class, and still are well in the mix for a large number of elite prospects.

As I keep saying, I fully believe that Notre Dame signs 27+ in this class. Between normal attrition and the new transfer rules, I feel that the numbers will be there for the Irish to sign another large class.

As far as the defensive backs are concerned, look for Notre Dame to concentrate on safety Jake Pope and safety Xavier Nwankpa exclusively. Pope’s commitment may be coming up shortly, while Nwankpa may take his time — with a spot at Notre Dame guaranteed.
