The numbers are the numbers

As we start to see the first commitments of the 2023 recruiting cycle for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish we can begin to analyze how the roster will look in 2023. While the focus right now (in July) is certainly on the 2022 class, we also want to see how that 2022 class affects 2023 and beyond.

This chart should give you a better feel for how the Notre Dame football recruiting effort will manage its numbers moving forward in the 2023 cycle. Unlike a lot of charts similar to this, the players are categorized by their academic year. An asterisk denotes that the player is eligible for a 5th year. I decided to hold off on the asterisks for right now. Basically everyone in the 2020 class back has an extra year, but figuring out who uses the 5th (or 6th) year is too much of a mystery. Kyle Hamilton will not be back in 2023 — that much I can promise you.

While a handful of these players may not be expected to return to Notre Dame in 2023, they may still be on this chart until official word is given that they are headed elsewhere.
