On Monday, elite 4-Star linebacker Jaylen Sneed finally made a public decision — he gave his commitment to play football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The 6’2” 210 pounder from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, chose the Irish over his other real finalist — the Oregon Ducks. Sneed also held offers from all over the country including the Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas A&M Aggies, Oklahoma Sooners, and many others.

Curiously, one school sticks out as having NOT offered Jaylen Sneed and that’s the Clemson Tigers.

Notre Dame has been on Sneed for a very long time, and it’s rumored that the #70 overall player has long been a silent commitment to the Irish for a couple of months.

Sneed is the #8 linebacker recruit in the country in the 2022 class, and we could still see a meteoric rise in the rankings during his senior season. At the Rivals 5 Star Challenge, Blue and Gold’s Mike Singer said Sneed outplayed every linebacker there — and he wasn’t even having his best day.

Here is the evaluation by 247’s Clint Brewster

Sneed is a rocked-up outside linebacker/edge player with long arms and and a good looking frame. Sneed played his junior season with his hand down as a defensive end but has more of an outside linebacker body type. Sneed has a relentless motor and superior physicality on the field. He has elite open-field abilities to make plays in space and is extremely hard to block. Sneed possesses great play-strength and knock back tackling power. He’s got raw physical tools with upside potential as a defensive prospect. Sneed’s explosive first step and downfield trigger put him in position to make plays in the backfield. Excellent linear speed to chase down the ball and showed consistent production throughout his high school career. Will set the tone of the game with his physicality.

After Darren Agu’s decommitment, Jaylen Sneed keeps the class count at 18 commits. The class is now back in the #2 spot on the 247 Composite Team rankings after falling behind Penn State for a week following the Nicholas Singleton commitment.

Marcus Freeman (along with Mike Elston) are making a HUGE impact in this class. It’s strange to see and say, but in this class that is currently ranked #2 in the country, Notre Dame’s top three commitments are all at the linebacker position (Jaylen Sneed, Junior Tuihalamaka, and Joshua Burnham).

The Irish are done at linebacker for the 2022 class. The rumored silent commitment by Sneed makes sense when you consider that the Irish cancelled top 150 4-Star linebacker Sebastian Cheek’s official visit.

The Irish still have plenty of work to do in this class — particularly at wide receiver, but also along the offensive line. Unless the Irish change Singleton’s mind, they will likely stick with “just” 4-Star Jadarian Price at running back.

I still continue to believe that this class will likely end with 27-28 commitments, which roughly leaves about 10 spots left in the cycle to fill.

Sneed is an incredible get for the Irish, will have a chance to make an immediate impact as a freshman in 2022. You should all be celebrating this commitment with about as much zeal as you can muster.

FIST PUMPS UP FOR JAYLEN!
