Notre Dame Football: Wide Receiver Jay Brunelle enters the transfer portal

The sophomore and junior class is now just one person

The Notre Dame wide receiver room just got smaller (again). According to a report on Irish Illustrated, Jay Brunelle is going to enter the transfer portal.

Brunelle was a part of the 2020 recruiting class, and came to Notre Dame alongside two other wide receivers, Jordan Johnson and Xavier Watts. That three man class is now down to just Watts only one year later.

Plenty can — and should— be said about Del Alexander and his job as a recruiter. Transfer are going to happen, and in this day and age they are going to be much more common. The thing here though, is that no major program should be walking into a season with only one scholarship wide receiver in the sophomore and junior class.

That “take only three a class” rule that Del has in place for himself is bad enough if guys stay, but once attrition starts to hit in one form or another, it feels like a prelude to disaster.
