The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were in hot pursuit of Tulsa cornerback Akayleb Evans from what seemed like the moment he entered the Transfer Portal. In the end, Evans committed to the Missouri Tigers instead.
Evans had a top five of Notre Dame, Missouri, Texas Longhorns, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Deion Sanders’ Jackson State. The Georgia Bulldogs came in late with an offer as well, but Evan never visited Athens.
What seems to be pretty clear, is that Missouri’s cornerbacks coach — who was the man that recruited the 2-Star prospect to Tulsa to begin with — held the bigger pull here for Evans. Akayleb never really got the red carpet treatment as a recruit, and so if you’re wondering why he went through all of this when his heart consistently pulled him in one direction... well some people love to be wined and dined, and others love to be wined and dined to have some options.
And there you have it.
Evans was being recruited to Notre Dame to help on the boundary, which now seems very likely to be Cam Hart’s boundary position.
