Gibbons will move on to try to be a starter

5th year senior Dillan Gibbons has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal rather than play his final year for Notre Dame.

Gibbons has been a career backup during his time in South Bend with only one start for his career (Syracuse) but he played an important part on special teams.

Last year he was on the same level with Josh Lugg when needed, and against the Florida State Seminoles he made a huge impact on the game. When Liam Eichenberg was knocked out of the game with an injury to his eye, Aaron banks moved out to left tackle and Gibbons — not Lugg — came out to play left guard. He played well, and there were hopes that he would continue to develop this spring.

When spring practice began, Gibbons was with the 1st team unit at left guard, but after several weeks of moving pieces around, the Irish staff eventually had Rocco Spindler as LG1 by the time the Blue-Gold game came around. Gibbons also put in some work at center to help find a backup to Zeke Correll, but that never really looked like it was going anywhere.

Gibbons hails from Clearwater, Florida, and I would imagine he will look to make a move back to his home state somewhere. We wish nothing but the best for Dillan as he leaves Notre Dame with his degree in hand.
