Notre Dame Football: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah talks about the “heart issue” in the NFL Draft

Wu went on the Rome show to talk about a non issue

NCAA Football: Southern California at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Last Thursday we sat around and watched the 2021 NFL Draft, and we were all ready to feel good about a 1st round selection of Butkus Award winning Notre Dame linebacker, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. By the end of that first night, many of us wondered aloud about Wu’s name NOT being called in the first round.

A wide array of bulletpoints hit the internet about why he dropped out of the first round. For most Irish fans (and many others) those “points” didn’t make sense, and we still expected an early selection in the second round.

But that didn’t happen either.

We saw Liam Eichenberg go to the Miami Dolphins with pick #42 and Aaron Banks to the San Francisco 49ers with pick #48 — and then finally JOK was picked by the Cleveland Browns with pick #52. It was a long, long wait — and it still didn’t make any sense.

It really wasn’t until after Owusu-Koramoah was selected that we started to hear about a beat writer for the Dallas Cowboys stating that the word was that Wu had some type of issue with his heart — which was something we never heard about during Wu’s entire time at Notre Dame or throughout the draft process in which he was predicted to go somewhere in the middle of the first round.

So, to put it to rest, here’s Jeremiah on the Jim Rome show talking about the “heart issue” that really wasn’t.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah talks about the "heart issue" that caused a drop in his draft status.
