Despite the early departure from the ACC Tournament, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish had a GREAT regular season, and are looking to make a lot of noise in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. On Sunday, the Irish were selected to be a regional host for the tourney.
Here is the press release from Notre Dame:
NOTRE DAME, Ind. — For the first time since 2004, postseason baseball is coming back to South Bend. Notre Dame and Frank Eck Stadium have been selected as one of the 16 regional hosts for the upcoming 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
The Irish, who won the ACC Atlantic Division and finished with the best record in the ACC, are set for their 22nd all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the first since 2015. It will be the fifth all-time regional held in South Bend and the first since 2004. The last time the Irish made it to the College World Series in 2002, the postseason run began with the South Bend Regional win over Ohio State.
The Irish will find out their overall seed and the other three teams joining them in the regional Monday afternoon for Selection Monday. The selection show will air live on ESPN2 at Noon ET.
