I love seeing former Notre Dame football players using their voices to better the world around them. Current Los Angeles Chargers defensive lineman Isaac Rochell is doing just that. Have you heard about his “See you on Sunday” foundation? Here’s the scoop.
Saturday’s Worth Sharing
Let’s face it - we’re all addicted to our phones.
See You On Sunday—SYOS for short—was created to encourage thoughtful social media habits. We focus on taking Saturdays off of social media (or minimizing usage) and getting outdoors, connecting with family & friends face-to-face, and engaging with the world around you, not the one in your pocket.
What’s the Deal with Social Media & Mental Health?
Evidence suggests that heavy usage of social media and digital devices can have negative effects on physical health, like:
- headaches, migraines, and vision problems
- disturbed sleep, which has been consistently associated with worse mental health
- inhibiting exercise and outdoor activity, which are important for better mental health
So What Are We Doing to Help?
Research indicates that rewarding in-person face-to-face social activity is a hedge against depression, anxiety, and other mental health outcomes.
That’s why we’re putting on social, in-person, and virtual events that give people the chance to connect beyond social media.

Last Saturday they put on a cook and connect event with Hipcooks. “We linked up with Hipcooks to host a virtual cooking class on April 3rd. Get signed up below and we’ll send you everything you need to know! Bring an appetite because the recipe looks delicious. Be sure to follow us on Instagram - word is there’s a giveaway around the corner…”
Sound like fun? Sign up on their website to learn about future events. I also hear the SYOS Run Club is launching in April!
So what do you think? Can you step away from social media for one day a week?
Cheers & GO IRISH!
