The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about them all. One Foot Down’s player profile series will, once again, take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2021 season.
#3 Houston Griffith, DB
Houston Griffith is a player that we have seen help out the defense in some ways. He is also someone to explore some options for himself. Marcus Freeman and his defensive coaching staff might also explore different options for Houston on defense for the coming 2021 season.
Last year, Griffith recorded 14 tackles in 7 games at safety. With Kyle Hamilton at that position followed by TaRiq Bracy, Griffith was left as the other man to sub in at the safety position. He had other modest seasons his other two years as well as a defensive back. Because of the talent already had in the secondary, Griffith actually put his name in the transfer portal in this past offseason. He actually removed himself from the portal to come back for his senior season.

The Restaurant That Fits
I’m going with Rainforest Cafe for Houston Griffith. He has explored some options in the transfer portal, and Marcus Freeman might explore putting him in at the cornerback. With all of the exploring going on, I thought of an expedition in a place like a rainforest. It’s a stretch, but I don’t care.

2021 Outlook
Houston Griffith comes back as a safety, but he still has Kyle Hamilton ahead of him this season. There maybe could be a chance for him to shine by going back to playing cornerback. He has played it before in his freshman and sophomore seasons. Also, with Nick McCloud declaring for the draft, Houston could maybe fill in that gap that is left by McCloud. It will be interesting to see where he lands and where he could lead the defense in his senior season.
