The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about them all. One Foot Down’s player profile series will, once again, take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2021 season.
#18 Joe Wilkins Jr. WR
Next up is redshirt Junior, Joe Wilkins Jr. He is a long athlete who always seems to pop up on practice videos as someone who is making plays. Wilkins has not produced a ton on the field, but seems like a player who is universally respected by his teammates for his work ethic. He stepped up in a few moments this year, especially in the season opener against the Duke Blue Devils, when no one was making any plays.

This seems to have been a big Spring for Wilkins, who has been popping on nearly every single practice highlight. With young, unproven receivers, Wilkins is definitely a veteran leader. At the very least, Wilkins athleticism and proven leadership will get him on the field on special teams and should be a very solid rotational player.
The Restaurant That Fits
Starbucks??

A bit of an odd choice you might be thinking? Is that even a restaurant? Doesn’t matter the rules here are loose......Annnnyway Starbucks has some incredible variety, but is very reliable. When I want a delicious Ice Coffee with light cream, they deliver...every. single. time. They can also spice it up a bit with exotic drinks and some low key delicious breakfast sandwiches. Like Starbucks, Wilkins is very dependable, but also can offer some unique and delicious options.
2020 Outlook
This is a tough one to call. On one hand, if Wilkins emerges as a go-to guy, the fanbase will be upset. They all want shiny new 4/5 star tools, always. However, Wilkins and projected started Jack Coan have clearly developed chemistry and trust, which has been on display throughout the Spring clips. I think Wilkins will be a heavy part of the rotation early in the year and (hot take) will lead WRs in receptions in multiple games this year. He is someone who will step up in big games and be a dependable option for the offense. Coan will lean on him early on in the season, especially on third downs. His production will then really depend on how healthy the rest of the group is on top of how effective the younger, unproven WRs are. Now enjoy this beautiful clip from the Spring...and GO IRISH
