The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about them all. One Foot Down’s player profile series will, once again, take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2021 season.
#17 Jack Coan, QB
If you have followed Notre Dame Football at all in the calendar year of 2021, you probably have seen that Mr. Jack Coan joined the team as a graduate transfer from the Wisconsin Badgers. He did not play in the 2020 season at Wisconsin because he injured his foot. With a weird season, an injury, and a big quarterback vacancy at Notre Dame, Jack seized an opportunity to come to South Bend. He did just that, and immediately was the presumed starting QB for the Irish in 2021.

Coan had a pretty good season with the Badgers in 2019, his last time playing, taking them to the Rose Bowl and almost beating Oregon. He also did something in 2019 that Ian Book and the Irish didn’t do: beat Michigan. Any man who can torch Michigan is good with me to lead the Irish offense.

Kwik Trip
Yeah, I said it. Jack Coan is Kwik Trip. If you have never been in these havens that are gas stations/rest stops when you are in the Midwest and definitely when you are in Wisconsin, go there immediately. They indeed do have a plethora of their own food options. Also, they have friendly staff, great gas stations snacks, and beer coolers with SPOTTED COW. This also works on another level because Jack Coan will be in South Bend on a quick (Kwik) trip.

2021 Outlook
From all reports and all of our assumptions, Jack Coan was brought to and came to Notre Dame to be the starter to replace Ian Book. The Irish have a solid QB room, but no one on the roster has taken any significant snaps. I’m sure Brian Kelly and Tommy Rees were looking for someone to come into the offense to start and make an impact right away. Now will Jack Coan fully fill Ian Book’s shoes? That is tough with Book leaving behind his legacy as having the most wins as a starter. But, Coan brings experience in an offensive scheme that involves the quarterback being more of a game manager than a do-it-all rockstar. He will definitely have the eyes of Irish Nation on him this coming Saturday when we get the first whiff of him under center in the Blue-Gold Game.
