The Notre Dame Fighting Irish added to to its growing 2022 recruiting class on Wednesday with the commitment of 3-Star wide receiver Amorion Walker.

The 6’3” 178 pounder from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, chose the Irish over a nice offer list that include the Florida State Seminoles, Indiana Hoosiers, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Ole Miss Rebels, and others.
Ponchatoula head coach Hank Tierney spoke with 247’s Steve Wiltfong about Walker:
“I’ve been coaching since 1977, I’ve been coaching really good players, very fortunate, guys that have played in the NFL and he’s in the top two or three kids I’ve coached. Legit 4.4 kid, 6-4, plays both ways as a junior. What’s unique he only played a few games and got hurt (hamstring pull). Nothing major, he’s fine now. Can really cover as a corner but can run.”
This is the 9th commitment of the 2022 class, and the first wide receiver on the board for the Irish. The 9 commitments come from 9 different states (Virginia, Louisiana, Missouri, Indiana, Georgia, Michigan, Massachusetts, Texas, and New Jersey). The class is currently ranked #7 according to the 247 Composite Team Rankings.

Del Alexander and Tommy Rees have a stated preference of taking a maximum of three wide receivers in any given class, but given the talent still remaining out there — I beg them to reconsider adding a 4th in this cycle. In the grand scheme of things, a 4th sophomore in 2023 may very well be needed.

With all of the other names still out there, it’s only natural to be a little underwhelmed with Walker’s commitment to the Irish — which I was to some degree. Still, the kid has incredible speed and moves naturally as a football player. Despite his fairly slight frame, he’s an aggressive player which is highlighted by his defensive play at cornerback. He is nowhere near a finished product, and getting another year of high school football under his belt could do wonders for his game and his recruiting ranking — to help satisfy those that solely depend on stars to help form their opinion.
FIST PUMPS UP FOR AMORION!
