“I had a great time at Notre Dame and will cherish the memories I have made,” the 6-foot-5, 206 pound junior wrote in a tweet Monday.
Jones, from Gurnee, Ill., committed to the Irish in February 2017 following offers from pretty much every Big Ten school: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska and Northwestern. The four-star prospect also received offers from MAC schools such as Central Michigan and Bowling Green as well as Mississippi, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt from the SEC.
Jones was ranked 376th nationally in the 247 Sports Composite, and was the 63rd highest ranked receiver and the fifth best prospect from the Land of Lincoln.
Jones did not play at all his freshman year, appeared in four games his sophomore season and played in the regular season finale over Syracuse last December. He never recorded a catch in his limited action.
Jones will be able to play immediately for his next team, with at least two years of eligibility remaining.
