The Notre Dame Fighting Irish finalized its 2021 recruiting class on National Signing Day, and one last giant part of the puzzle made the proper fit. At a ceremony at Archbishop Rummel High School in Louisiana, 3-Star running back Logan Diggs announced that he was still committed and will sign with the Irish instead of the LSU Tigers.

Diggs originally committed to Notre Dame back in July, and at the time was the only Irish running back commitment. Notre Dame had pushed hard for 5-Star Will Shipley in the spring, and after he decided to choose the Clemson Tigers, the Irish put a much bigger effort into a handful of other guys — and Logan Diggs was one of them at the top of their list.

This recruitment got a bit of a jolt on December 9 when Diggs finally got the offer from the home state LSU Tigers. Diggs had always wanted an offer from LSU, and the Tigers are quite familiar with the Rummel football program. Notre Dame still expected Diggs to sign in the early period — and even if he did — he was officially torn between the two schools, and wanted more time to evaluate his own situation.

In the end, he stayed true to his original commitment and will enroll at Notre Dame in June along with another running back in this class in 4-Star Audric Estime. The two provide a fantastic combination that is able to bring different things to the position and to the team.

Logan Diggs evaluation via 247’s Gabe Brooks:

Possesses requisite size for high-volume usage at Power 5 level. Built well relative to listed size with frame space for some more mass. Runs with violence and finishes at the second level. Best as north-south runner with one-cut ability, but shows occasional open-field wiggle. Reliable pass-catcher out of the backfield. Not afraid of contact. Willing blocker when asked. Flashes good initial juice but can improve top-end speed. Production and yards per carry suggest need for more big-play punch. High-floor running back with workhorse potential at the P5 level. Potential to become reliable starter for big school program.

Notre Dame has now officially signed 27 commitments for the 2021 class and are currently ranked #9 according to the 247 Team Composite Rankings.
