Quick Recap: Notre Dame Men’s Basketball Loses at Louisville, 69-57

This one was never in doubt

NCAA Basketball: Notre Dame at Louisville Louisville Courier-Journal-USA TODAY Sports

That wasn’t fun, but it was expected.

After the Notre Dame Fighting Irish blew a 20-point lead on Saturday night to Syracuse, not many people had high hopes for the team to win on the road against a better Louisville team. Well, that outcome we expected came true. The Irish lost to the Louisville Cardinals tonight by a score of 69-57. The Irish are now 9-12 on the season and 6-9 in ACC play. The Cardinals were always leading outside of the start of the game at 0-0.

UND StatCast

Juwan Durham led the Irish with 18 points, and he scored the first 6 for ND tonight. Prentiss Hubb had 14 points, but he was the only other Irish player tonight with double digit figures. Shooting a measly 37% from the field (and only 32% at halftime), the Irish could never get anything really going. That was due in part to Louisville having 5 of 8 players score in the double digits. If the Irish would even come close to the Cardinals in points, Louisville would drain some shots.

Another big loss was the Irish on the boards. Louisville out-rebounded Notre Dame 45-30 with 31 of those coming on defensive rebounds alone. Second chance shots were barely a thing for the Irish tonight. Louisville finished with a 42% shooting percentage - nothing that is too outstanding, but it definitely was more than enough to get the job done for the win.

The Irish are next scheduled to play at BC on Saturday at 2 PM.
