In the first set of college football playoff rankings, the committee put the Notre Dame Fighting Irish #10.
Personally, I thought the Irish would likely be #9, but that was under the assumption that Michigan would fall behind Notre Dame (and I figured Wake Forest would be ahead of the Irish).
The rest of the top 10:
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Michigan State Spartans
- Oregon Ducks
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Cincinnati Bearcats
- Michigan Wolverines
- Oklahoma Sooners
- Wake Forest Demon Deacons
- Notre Dame
The Irish have one ranked win on the season now, and that came against the #21 ranked Wisconsin Badgers. I absolutely have no idea why the Iowa Hawkeyes are ranked at #22.
There are no teams left on Notre Dame’s schedule that are currently ranked in the top 25, and to be perfectly honest, it’s highly unlikely that the Irish will have beat more than two ranked teams when it’s all said and done (Wisconsin and MAYBE Purdue).
