NEXT UP BETTER BE THE STATUE
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Women’s Basketball team just announced that they will take a great step in making Muffet McGraw’s name permanently a part of Purcell Pavilion. On Sunday, December 12, Notre Dame will honor former Head Coach Muffet McGraw by adding her name to the Ring of Honor. A banner with her name will forever hang in the rafters of Purcell Pavilion.
Dear @MuffetMcGraw, it's your turn next for the Ring of Honor.

The ceremony will take place just before the tip-off of NDWBB’s home game against Purdue-Fort Wayne around 2 PM. The linked press release in the above tweet mentions that she is the seventh member of the Ring of Honor from the women’s basketball team. She has coached all the other six members. McGraw also joins Digger Phelps as the only other head coach in the Ring of Honor (Niele Ivey has a banner up, but she was named to the Ring of Honor as a player before being named McGraw’s replacement).
I can think of no one in Notre Dame athletics who deserves this more than Muffet McGraw. Not only was she a phenomenal coach (the true GOAT), but she is just as equally an incredible person and advocate for Notre Dame, women’s sports, and being a good person. She will get an insanely warm welcome from a full arena, I would imagine. The next step, though, is to get the plans for that statue set up somewhere on campus. Her name will be in the rafters, but that iconic Muffet coaching squat in pink heels needs to be immortalized as well.
