Notre Dame Fighting Irish VS North Carolina Tar Heels: Betting Lines

Home favorites yet again for another night game

NCAA Football: Notre Dame at North Carolina Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

WE LOVE TO COVER

After the Notre Dame Fighting Irish literally shut out the lights at Notre Dame Stadium against USC, the Irish found themselves on the winning side of the rivalry yet again. Four straight wins is incredible. Also, the Irish covered the spread against an overall anemic USC team, so that was great. We love overs, but unfortunately the under hit in the game. This weekend, the Irish are again at home, at night, and home favorites. Let’s take a look at how the line shake out this week.

ND vs. UNC Betting Lines

The Irish opened around a 4.5-point favorite, but that has since dropped to 3.5. Some money is getting spent on UNC to cover. Even though they are struggling and the Irish just had a great win at home, the betting people still love the Tar Heels and are skeptical of the Irish. The Irish sit as decent favorites on the moneyline at -170, but not overwhelming favorites. Vegas thinks this game will see some points with the total at 62.5. That might have something to do with ND’s ability to score and then adding in Sam Howell as QB for UNC.

For overall predictions, Oddsshark predicts a 7-point win for the Tar Heels. I have to be honest, I have no idea where that comes from considering the trajectory of both teams this season (UNC is 4-3). For trends to keep in mind, the Irish are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games, while the Heels are 4-8 ATS in their last 12 games while being 5-13 overall in their last 18 games on the road.

Matty G’s Prediction

Considering the trends that we see here plus how both teams have been this season, I predict an Irish win and an Irish cover. We have been talking about the struggles that the Tar Heels have even before the season started. I could see this not being a blowout, but a one-possession victory (or hopefully more) is something that seems plausible for the Irish. As far as the total, I hate to do it, but I think the under actually hits here. This could be similar to the USC game where both teams score a little bit, but they won’t match that 63 points needed for the over to hit. I could see a game similar to 31-23 or something happening.

DAMHSA BUA Count

Last week, the OVER hit on the DAMHSA BUA count. This week, I’m setting it at 4.5. Will the Irish score 5 or more TDs, or 4 or fewer? Let me know in the poll, like every week. Also, put your thoughts on the betting lines in the comments below.
