Notre Dame Hockey: Irish Earn Second 5-2 Win of Season Against NMU Wildcats

After Friday’s 2-1 OT win against the Michigan Tech Huskies, The Notre Dame Fighting Irish notched their third straight win of the season Saturday against the Northern Michigan University Wildcats in Marquette, Michigan.

First Period

The first period was all about the Irish. Landon Slaggert scored the first goal of the game about two minutes into play. Trevor Janicke later doubled the Notre Dame score with assists from his brother Justin and Max Ellis. Notre Dame’s Ryder Rolston acted on the momentum and found the back of the net as the period drew to a close. The Irish killed off two penalties in the first period and headed into the second with a 3-0 lead.

Second Period

Trevor Janicke snatched his second goal of the game about two minutes into the second. Northern Michigan’s Ben Newhouse scored his team’s first goal of the game heading into the end of the period. Notre Dame killed off two additional penalties over the course of the period, but failed to capitalize on the first Irish power play of the night.

Third Period

About 14 minutes into the period, Notre Dame’s Max Ellis knocked the puck off the NMU crossbar but there was no goal upon review.

AJ Vanderbeck snagged the second NMU goal as the clock ran down and the Wildcats pulled goaltender Charlie Glockner from the net.

Ellis then scored an empty netter for Notre Dame to end it 5-2, Irish. By the end of the game, the Irish had narrowly outshot the Wildcats 34-31.
