The Notre Dame Fighting Irish football offseason rages on with their search for a new defensive coordinator to replace Clark Lea. One name has been at the top of the list throughout this search, and that name belongs to Cincinnati Bearcats DC Marcus Freeman.
The former Ohio State Buckeye is one of the hottest names in the coaching industry right now, and virtually anyone with an opening wants him on their sideline. According to Football Scoop, that sideline home for Freeman will belong to the LSU Tigers in 2021.
Perhaps the most sought after defensive coordinator of this cycle is planning to go to LSU sources tell FootballScoop https://t.co/NhWmBVUKeg

So... that sucks if you’re into rising stars as coordinators.
Another coach that I have been told since the very beginning of this search is that of Mississippi St. Bulldogs DC, Zach Arnett. Just like Freeman, Arnett is at the top of many program’s “want” lists. Both coaches run a type of 3-3-5 defense with some variances. Where Arnett is in the actual pecking order of candidates for the Notre Dame job is still uncertain (as is ND’s position in Arnett’s pecking order).
I don’t really expect Notre Dame to rush along this process, so we will have to be patient to see how this goes down in South Bend.
