Notre Dame Football: Irish Defensive End Ovie Oghoufo enters the transfer portal

Another one dives into the portal — which is a stargate, really

NCAA Football: Notre Dame at Stanford Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

According to Pete Thamel from Yahoo Sports, Notre Dame Fighting Irish DE Ovie Oghoufo, will enter the transfer portal.

Oghoufo was a three star recruit that held offers from the in-state Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans — as well as many other Power 5 programs east of the Mississippi. He redshirted his freshman year at Notre Dame where he defensive scout team player of the year.

As a sophomore and junior, Oghoufo had very similar seasons in terms of snaps and, tackles, etc. In those two combines years; he played in 19 games with 25 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 3 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery.

This appears to be a move that Notre Dame had been anticipating over the last couple of months, but it still comes as a surprise to some Irish fans. With Daelin Hayes and Adetokunbo Ogundeji headed to the NFL, the pathway to more playing time is certainly there — especially given the way the Irish like to rotate its players.

Again... I will be posting something soon about the overall roster for Notre Dame at some point this week. There is a lot of turnover here, and without real guidance when it comes to what the NCAA is going to do about scholarship numbers with the “free-year pass” for everyone, it’s hard to project many scenarios.
