Notre Dame Football: Irish defensive back Houston Griffith is reportedly set to enter transfer portal

According to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, Notre Dame Fighting Irish defensive back, Houston Griffith, will be entering the transfer portal.

Griffith was a major win for Notre Dame in its 2018 recruiting class by flipping him from the Florida State Seminoles. Although a Chicago area native, Griffith played high school football at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida — yes the school that future blue-chippers go to learn hoe to be the best blue-chippers.

As a freshman, Griffith was pressed into service as a nickel back. He played well at times — but was still clearly in need of development. An issue here might be HOW he was developed. Houston came to Notre Dame as a cornerback, but after the move to nickel, he was moved again to safety.

Over the last two years, Griffith has only really managed backup time at safety and has played less of a role during that period than what he did in his freshman year.

The Notre Dame attrition train continues this weeks and NFL draft declarations and transfer portal announcements have been steady since the end of the Rose Bowl. One extra note... tight end Brock Wright will enter the NFL Draft.
