The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were already planning on a lot of retooling along the offensive line for 2021, and there is more to do now that Aaron Banks has announced that he will enter the NFL Draft this spring.

Banks has had an excellent career in South Bend since his arrival with the 2017 recruiting class — a class that had to buy into a whole new Notre Dame after the disastrous 2016 season.

After taking a redshirt in 2017, Aaron was a 31 game starter for Notre Dame. This season in particular was a year in which he really shined. Banks became a 1st Team All-ACC player as well as a postseason All-American. PFF has consistently graded him as one of the best linemen in all of college football throughout the 2020 season.

With Banks’s announcement, we only expect Jarrett Patterson to return to Notre Dame from the original 5 starters on the offensive line. There has been no word yet on a final decision from Josh Lugg about if he will use the extra year of eligibility the NCAA has granted everyone.

Good luck to Aaron on his next big step.
