There were a flurry of transfer portal entries from Notre Dame Fighting Irish football players after their loss to Alabama in the Rose Bowl. One of those names was defensive end Ovie Oghoufo. On Tuesday, Oghoufo announced his commitment to transfer to play for the Texas Longhorns.

The Michigan native played a small role for the Irish in 2020 as part of a rotation at the VYPER, but with what Notre Dame is bringing back in 2021 — that role didn’t look like it was going to get more work.
Ovie will graduate this spring which makes him immediately eligible when he arrives in Austin. He will also have three years of eligibility to use with Texas, which makes this move part of a longer goal than a short term decision.
When Oghoufo entered the transfer portal, most thought that a Group of Five school was going to be the likely destination — and now that couldn’t be more wrong.
Congratualtions to Ovie for his Notre Dame degree and good luck in Austin.
