Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Irish in great shape for commitment from elite defensive end, Tyson Ford

The Irish might get another from the “Show Me State”

As we continue to see in the college football playoff every year — recruiting is king and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish need to do a better job on the trail. It’s not that they’re doing a bad job, but to actually compete with the like of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ohio State Buckeyes (both of which are on future Notre Dame schedules) the Irish just need more.

A piece of that “more” could come on Monday when 2022 4-Star defensive end Tyson Ford announces his commitment. By Thursday this past week, a lot of analysts believed that Ford was headed to Norman to play for the Oklahoma Sooners. On Friday, as it turned out, recruiting experts started predicting that the Irish will be Ford’s choice on Monday.

On Rivals, it was Sooner Scoop’s Josh McCuistion and Blue and Gold’s Mike Singer that put their Future Cast picks in for the Irish with Ford. On 247, it was Oklahoma Insider Brandon Drumm and Irish Illustrated’s Tom Loy with their Crystal Ball picks for Notre Dame (as well as Steve Wiltfong).

I don’t have the exact time on Monday, and since it’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day and there is no school, it could come at anytime form the St. Louis prospect.

Something I want to point out here is that even though Ford is a 4-Star on both Rivals and 247, he is ranked as a WDE on 247 and a SDE on Rivals. Also, Rivals has him as the 64th ranked overall prospect in the country while 247 has him at 181 nationally.

Notre Dame’s 2022 recruiting class is off to a really strong start. The Irish currently have 4 commitments and are ranked #10 by the 247 Composite Team Rankings. An addition of Tyson Ford would move them up to #5 — but again — it’s very early.
