The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are having a really tough basketball season right now. At 3-6 overall and 0-3 in the ACC, you might think it’s even worse than what it is — but they’ve been right there to win a handful of those games they lost. A short bench and injuries to make it shorter don’t help.
The bouncing around of the schedule because of COVID-19 doesn’t help matters either, but that’s something the entire country has to deal with. Really... it might just boil down to Notre Dame’s guard play — or lack there of. Prentiss Hubb has not had the season shooting the ball that we want, and forcing him to be that guy has made things worse.
The Irish are getting great frontcourt play from both Nate Laszewski and Juwan Durham to make things interesting. Laszewski has been one of the top players in the nation while leading the Irish in scoring and in rebounding, but needs help from Hubb, Dane Goodwin, and others to get over the hump in these ACC games.
That includes a very good Virginia Tech Hokies team today that is ranked #19 in the country — and always particularly tough at home in Blacksburg.
