Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on OFD (and a late one)! Friends, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in a type of purgatory right now with a postponed game behind them and uncertainty ahead. The new COVID-19 update from the school isn’t the most reassuring thing I have read lately, but they still appear to be pushing forward.
As we do.
I asked the staff here at OFD to give their thoughts about the Irish just two games into their 11 game season. It’s a little weird, and very early — but as we get to see more and more football throughout the country, I think we get a better feel for what Notre Dame is, and for what they are not.
Some schools have played 3 games which is over a quarter of what their season will be, so a little analytical thought should be welcomed.
Maybe it’s seeing the Oklahoma Sooners and LSU Tigers go down that has me rethinking things a bit. And while that’s probably true in some respect, it’s also seeing how teams are developing that helps cause a small reset.
The Irish have climbed to #5 in the country with a giant asterisk, and have shown a lot of good things on the field. They also showed some deficiencies that are definitely a concern.
For me, the changed outlook has more to do with Notre Dame’s opponents than with Notre Dame itself. Some games look harder and others look easier. The script was flipped in some ways.
So what do you think?

There won’t be a full season so this all seems kind of nuts to me
Your pipes this week are less pipes and more... I don’t know. Just thinking about the great plagues of the past I guess.
