The Notre Dame Fighting Irish move up two spots to #5 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll this week. College football saw a a couple of upsets that helped allow this when the LSU Tigers lost at home to the Mississippi St. Bulldogs and the Oklahoma Sooners dropped one at home to the Kansas State Wildcats.

2020 is pretty messed up (of course) and both sets of polls now include teams from the Big 10 and the AP Top 25 has also included the PAC-12. There was a concern from Irish fans that despite the upsets this weekend, the idle date and the inclusion of teams that haven’t even started play yet would cause a stalemate or even a drop.
As it is, the Ohio State Buckeyes (preseason #2) are still ranked below the Irish as are the Penn State Nittany Lions and Oregon Ducks (both were ranked ahead of Notre Dame in the preseason polls as well).
The biggest jump up in the polls this week was from the Miami-Florida Hurricanes after stomping what may be the worst Florida State Seminoles team of our lifetime. The Irish have another bye week this Saturday, but are still scheduled top welcome those terrible Noles to South Bend on October 10 for a prime time game.
