Bagpipe Monday: Should we be worried about Notre Dame’s roster moving forward?

The weekly poll and pipes is available this week.

Notre Dame vs South Florida ACC Media

Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on OFD! Friends, we saw a huge change to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish roster and depth chart against the South Florida Bulls. Just hours before the game, Notre Dame announced that 7 players would be out that day — and Kyle Hamilton because of his ankle.

While Notre Dame didn’t state that these deletions were COVID-19 related, it’s fair to assume as much. The Irish played splendidly, and the depth chart subtractions didn’t impact Notre Dame as they pounded South Florida.

But what about this week against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons? What about even further down the road?

The players that were out Saturday will probably be out this week as well — or at least I think we should assume as much. So what happens if there is an additional hit this week? What if Notre Dame loses another 3 or 4 players?

Do you see what I’m saying? At what point do we need to fear a cancellation? At what point does the roster get hit enough times that its the main reason for a loss?

There are a ton of questions that involve these scenarios and I’m not sure if I have any good answers. Maybe this is something that won’t be a big deal in a week — but then maybe it’s bigger. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that anything can and will happen.

Yikes.

So what do you think? Should we be worried about all of this, or are the concerns overblown? Let us know.
