Despite a slow start and a bit of sloppy play against the Duke Blue Devils, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish climbed to #7 from #10 in both the AP Top 25 and Amway Coaches Poll. It’s exactly where we thought they would be even before Saturday’s action.

The Irish “jumped” over the Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, and Penn State Nittany Lions — all schools that aren’t playing fall football at the moment.
As far as the ACC is concerned, we have:
- #1 Clemson Tigers
- #7 Notre Dame
- #12 North Carolina Tar Heels
- #17 Miami-Florida Hurricanes
- #18 Louisville Cardinals
- #20 Virginia Tech Hokies
- #25 Pittsburgh Panthers
To say the least — it’s going to be a weird year. There’s also still a massive push for the Big 10 to play this season, and early enough to be a part of the playoff, so if they are able to manage that — the polls will likely get another kick in the teeth.
The Irish are 1-0 (1-0) ranked #7 and will take on the South Florida Bulls this Saturday in South Bend. The Bulls received votes in both polls this week.
