The Notre Dame Fighting Irish received a commitment from 3-Star offensive tackle Joe Alt on Monday — a commitment we needed for the 2021 class. As we talked about on the OFD Podcast, this wasn’t a flip-out-awesome commitment, but it was something that can help the Irish down the road in recruiting their 2021 class and the development of the team in a few years.
The Triple Option will focus on this today. LET”S GO!
THE PATH
How did Notre Dame land Joe Alt? Obviously this wasn’t the normal type of recruitment where a prospect gets offered before his junior year and the process takes shape. Irish Illustrated’s Kevin Sinclair maps this recruitment out and shows how the Irish won out after a slow play.
How It Happened: Joe Alt Commits to #NotreDame
— Kevin Sinclair (@KevinSinclair_) July 6, 2020
Joe Alt's pledged to the Irish today over Iowa & Minnesota, a 6-7 tight end destined to transform into an OT in college.

THE BLUEPRINT OF A JEDI
ND Insider’s Carter Karels goes a little more in depth into Joe Alt as a high school tight end and how Notre Dame plans to transform him into a collegiate offensive tackle — much like his father before him.
Joe Alt (@JoeAlt7) just verbally pledged to #NotreDame and broke down his commitment with me. The Irish are getting an offensive tackle w/ NFL bloodlines & a lot of upside.

"I was waiting for me to feel right, and I think with Notre Dame, I feel right.” https://t.co/gauBNukzAF
SO, SO SMOOOTH
ISD’s Christian McCollum spole with Totino-Grace High School football head coach Jay Anderson about the transition from tight end to tackle for Joe Alt, and he [Anderson] thinks it should be a smooth one.
Totino-Grace HS HC Jay Anderson is confident new #NotreDame commit @JoeAlt7 will make a smooth transition from TE to OT.

"He’s just an outstanding young man. I couldn’t say enough positives about Joe & couldn’t be happier for a kid like that."

A BUMP IN THE RANKINGS
As an unofficial rule here at OFD, I generally use the 247 Composite exclusively when it comes to team recruiting rankings. Currently that ranking is #13 with only Alabama ranked above the Irish having less committed recruits. Mike Singer discusses Notre Dame’s team ranking on Rivals and how that all looks. Again... more numbers mean higher recruiting rankings — I can’t stress this enough.
With Joe Alt in the fold, the Irish moved up three spots. https://t.co/OGSejVCOKj
