The Notre Dame Fighting Irish finally added a running back to its 2021 class on Wednesday after months of searching and new offers. 3-Star running back Logan Diggs from Louisiana gave his commitment to Notre Dame.

The Archbishop Rummel star chose the Irish over rival USC Trojans, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Arizona State Sun Devils, and a long list of others. The in-state LSU Tigers have not offered Diggs as of yet, but the Irish only did so back on May 5th.
247’s Gabe Brooks offered this evaluation:
Possesses requisite size for high-volume usage at Power 5 level. Built well relative to listed size with frame space for some more mass. Runs with violence and finishes at the second level. Best as north-south runner with one-cut ability, but shows occasional open-field wiggle. Reliable pass-catcher out of the backfield. Not afraid of contact. Willing blocker when asked. Flashes good initial juice but can improve top-end speed. Production and yards per carry suggest need for more big-play punch. High-floor running back with workhorse potential at the P5 level. Potential to become reliable starter for big school program.
There is a lot of comparison shopping when it comes to Diggs. Irish fans have been quick to point to Theo Riddick as one, but Theo was much more explosive at this point in his high school career. If we want to stay with Notre Dame comparisons, I would liken him more to Darius Walker than Riddick. One fun comparison tossed around Irish message boards is of Le’veon Bell — but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
I like a lot of what Diggs brings to the table in the running and passing game, and like Gabe Brooks, I think there is a lot of potential for quality production.
This is the 14th commitment for Notre Dame in its 2021 class — and the 3rd one this month. It will slide the Irish up one spot past the Oklahoma Sooners in the 247 Team Composite Rankings to #13. The Sooners are the only team with less commitments than the Irish in the top 15 with 13.

It’s still too early to give a solid number on how big Notre Dame’s 2021 class will be, but the common thinking is that it won’t go higher than 20 commitments. We still have to see how the attrition for the 2020 season pans out to view what spots may be open next year. Still, that leaves about 6 spots in this class, and I’m unsure if that is likely.

There are 5 that Notre Dame is very much in the mix for:
- 4-Star OL Rocco Spindler
- 4-Star WR Jayden Thomas
- 4-Star WR Titus Mokiamo-Atimalala
- 4-Star LB Prince Kollie
- 3-Star TE Mitchell Evans
Currently, if Notre Dame added all 5 of those guys after Diggs, they would rank #8 in the 247 Team Composite Rankings — but a lot of that can wait for another day.
I’m excited abut the addition of Diggs to this class, and throwing another stake into the talent rich soil of Louisiana is a really great thing too.
FIST PUMPS UP FOR DIGGS!
