Notre Dame Football Recruiting: 4-Star LB Prince Kollie puts Irish in his top 5

Linebacker recruiting... who knew?

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish recruiting effort got some good news on Wednesday when 4-Star linebacker Prince Kollie put the Domers on his top 5 list. The list also includes the Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, Louisville Cardinals, and Georgia Bulldogs.

The Tennessee product released a top 10 list just over a month ago, and was able to trim his list in half — a trimming that saw the Auburn Tigers and Texas Longhorns being no longer considered (among others).

Normally I don’t publish these “ND made top 5 list” things that recruits put out — but this one feels ridiculously important. Besides all of the other obstacles the Irish are facing on the 2021 recruiting front, linebacker recruiting has been an absolute head scratcher. There is a real need for the 2021 class, and the Irish only have 10 offers out right now. Of those 10, only 3 are uncommitted right now with Kollie being the only realistic chance for Notre Dame.

So yeah... this is a big one.

Here is what Notre Dame’s eligibility chart at LB for 2021 looks like right now:

I think we can pretty much pencil in that Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah will enter the 2021 NFL Draft and that give the Irish just 9 linebackers for 2021 with 4 of them exhausting their eligibility at the end of the season.

Quite simply... Clark Lea, Brian Kelly, and Brian Polian have to get this done. If they don’t? I’m not sure I even know where to begin, and maybe Notre Dame doesn’t either.
