Transfer Portal News for the Irish

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Women’s Basetball Team just got a committment from a transfer. The name of this player is one that a lot of Irish fans will recognize, or at least her last name. Dara Mabrey, yes, Michaela and Marina’s sister, is coming to play for Notre Dame.

There has been no official posting by NDWBB or by Niele Ivey yet. Also, the post on Michaela’s Instagram announcing it has been deleted. Maybe the official word from the team needs to come first. Regardless, though, this is happening.

Dara played at Virginia Tech, so in direct competition with the Irish in the ACC. She has played at VT for two seasons. If she is able to play right away at the beginning of the 2020-21 season, Dara will have two years of eligibility left. She had entered the transfer portal on March 17. Her decision might have been delayed due to COVID-19 quarantine happening right after her decision to enter the transfer portal.

This is a HUGE commitment for the Irish. Michaela might have been big in recruiting her sister to play on her team. Niele Ivey again has been making incredible roster moves since her announcement as head coach just 1 and 12 months ago. I’m very excited to see the third installment of a Mabrey on the team. Dara, like her sisters (especially Marina) is lights out as a three-point shooter. She will be needed as she can bring some experience in ACC play to the team and to the guard play. This is very exciting.
