Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly issues statement about the nationwide protests

This isn’t a political statement, and OFD is not a political forum — we talk about Notre Dame Fighting Irish athletics — and we try damn hard to keep it that way despite the obvious events that surround all of us in this country. With that said, when someone like Notre Dame Football Head Coach Brian Kelly issues a statement about what has happened inside the United States over the past week, it deserves coverage and discussion.

On Saturday morning, Brian Kelly sent this tweet out:

As with many in this country, Kelly appears to be trying to cope and understand with what is happening. Unlike the many, Kelly is a leader of young men ( a lot of whom are minorities) and is in a position to help the cause he is talking about.

Senseless loss of life, violence, unrest and continued racial injustice. My voice should have been heard earlier, but I was at a loss for words.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Floyd family and all those affected by prior injustice. I lend my support to be a solution and stand with all those committed to change.”
