The Triple Option: Notre Dame’s Father Jenkins pulls a switcheroo

4 things you need to know today

NCAA Football: Virginia at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome back to the Triple Option — my attempt to keep you as informed as possible about the Notre Dame Fighting Irish without writing a bunch of articles (working smarter for you).

Here’s today’s lineup:

FATHER JENKINS SAYS ONE THING AND THEN SAYS IT ANOTHER WAY THAT’S NOT THE SAME...

Notre Dame President Father John Jenkins published an editorial in the New York Times about the university’s decision to re-open this fall.

In a matter of just a few hours, both the headline and the sub-header changed for the exact same article:

I’m not going to pepper you with my opinions about all of this, but I think the change in titles is just as important as the actual article. Like, why bro — I mean Father?

THE DECISION HAS ALREADY BEEN MADE

You can count me as one of those that recently published a story about a possible decision regarding Notre Dame’s game against the Navy Midshipmen in Ireland. Basically, we’re all waiting to hear the inevitable, and Tom Noie says it’s absolutely inevitable because duh... Notre Dame will already be on its 3rd week of school by then.

MORE RUNNING BACK STUFF

We touched on the situation in the running back room with Chris Tyree and Kyren Williams. In that conversation we basically said that Williams and Tyree were different backs in different classes — and Notre Dame still has C’Bo Flemister, Jahmir Smith, and Jafar Armstrong on the roster. It’s a crowded room, and we failed to mention what is likely to be ANOTHER running back on the 2020 roster, Trevor Speights.

A SAFE OFFER

There is some not-so-great recruiting news out there for the Irish, but they aren’t backing down as more and more offers are being sent out. One of those names that has been heating up over the last several weeks is Georgia safety, Kaleb Edwards. Friend of the pod and UHND writer Greg Flamaang published a nice piece about Edwards and his incredible talent.
